Mexican food is tasty, and Puerto Morelos has plenty of it. One of our favorite Mexican dishes is the tostada. Like a hard shell, open-faced taco, tostadas are delicious and messy. They are just as versatile as the taco and taste amazing with a range of meats, cheeses, beans, and veggies.
We’re lucky to be located in a town filled with wonderful Mexican restaurants, so we wanted to give a shout-out to two of our favorite tostadas spots.
Blue Morelos serves fusion-style tostadas that tend to incorporate fresh local flavors, namely seafood. The restaurant is also one of the few places that specializes in tostadas, so there’s no doubt they know what they’re doing.
The “Cajun Tuna” is quite frankly one of our favorite dishes in Puerto Morelos. A seared tuna with cajun seasoning, it is truly delightful. The base layer of avocado is an excellent touch.
Blue Morelos also has some fantastic fried shrimp tostadas. If you’re a sweet tooth, then look no further than the Coco, which comes with a berry sauce drizzled on top. For a little kick, try the La Paz, which uses a spicy mayo sauce.
The portobello ceviche tostada is also a great option for vegetarians.
A menu loaded with delicious corn based options (hence the name), Maiz Maiz is a great place for classic tostadas right in town. Between the three options of beef, ground beef, and chicken, it’s pretty hard to go wrong.
The tostadas are beautifully colored with green (avocado and lettuce), magenta (onion), red (tomato), and white (cheese and sour cream). That’s not to mention, the tasty bean layer on the bottom. Wash it all down with one of the flavored waters (aguas), and it is one of our favorite authentic Mexican meals in town.
At a reasonable price, you’ll probably be full after two of these. If not, give the pozole a try while you’re there!
